The end of our first week!

It is hard to believe that we are at the end of our first week in school already and that next time I see the students it will be September! We had a very busy first few days in first grade, getting into the swing of our school year and starting to learn new routines and expectations which will help us through all of the big learning that happens in first grade. Today we continued our Morning Meeting and Math Meeting routines, did our first writing activity (creating pages for a class book about our summer vacations), and began to formally explore the books in our large classroom library. We also sang songs, played games, and explored more of the learning tools in our classroom. Below are some photos from the day!

Next week we will be starting our "Brown Bag Shares" as part of Morning Meeting. Please see the notice that went home in folders today for a more complete explanation. Also, as we become familiar with our daily dismissal routine, I will begin to give students the choice to have a snack while they are waiting for their bus, if they have extra snack left in their bag and are hungry. First graders eat snack in the classroom once each day, and some are hungry again by the end of the school day. For those students who ride a later bus, there is time to relax in the classroom before they are dismissed. These students typically read, draw, or play quietly while waiting for their buses to be called. If you would like to pack extra snack in your child's bag, he or she may also use this dismissal time to have an extra snack before riding the bus home.

Have a wonderful long weekend and see everyone Tuesday!
