Student Google Logins

All students in the Colchester school district have their own Google accounts so that they can work on and save projects, use email, etc throughout their school years here. Kids in our class have already used the our class google account all throughout the year and have more recently worked with me to try out project tools like Google Slides. This week we took the next step and I taught all of the kids how to log in to their individual Google accounts! They will used these at school every year from here on out so I like to have my students start getting familiar with their own accounts at the end of first grade. That way they have some background knowledge about Google tools when starting second grade (and, holy cow, they are almost ready for second grade!).

If you would like to have your child try logging into their Google account at home (and maybe trying to create their own Google Doc or Slide if interested) their usernames and passwords all follow the format below:

Username:    first.last@colchestersd.org (ie john.smith@colchestersd.org)

Password:    birthdate in mm/dd/yyyy format ( ie  11052009)

Chicks

First grade classes will be getting their fertilized eggs next week and beginning our last science unit of the year: hatching chicks! This week our class is doing some reading and prep work to get excited. Today we filled our bulletin with a hatching chick art project!

Digital Projects about Mexico

Our class finished our study of Mexico right before April break! We wrapped up by Skyping with a first grade class we are connected to in Monterrey, Mexico. The two classes asked each other questions and discussed ways that we are alike and different from one another. Students in our class finished their learning about Mexico by creating short presentations using the app Haiku Deck to show a way that we are alike and a way that we are different from people in Mexico! Click the links below to view those presentations.

District Art Show

Next week from May 3-5 (Tue-Thur) the Colchester Distrcit Art Show will be held in the high school gym with a reception Thursday night from 6-8pm. Invitations went home yesterday with students whose art work will be featured in the art show though everyone is welcome to attend! Unfortunately there are just so many students in the Colchester School District that not everyone's art is able to featured at the show.

Shelburne Farm

We went on a field trip to Shelburne Farm today! We had a great time learning about some of what goes on on farms in the spring which leads into our Life Cycle of a Chick unit coming up at the end of April.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who came along with us today. If you took photos and would email them to me I will add them to this post. I was with one of the two groups today so most of these photos are of that group. If you were part of the other group please do send me your photos!

Unfortunately my photosnack link wouldn't show all the photos I put in the slideshow so I have to do it this way instead. Sorry for all the scrolling!

Writers' Share

Today during Writers' Workshop we had a writing celebration! Mr. Antonicci came in to share an "All About" book he wrote about his trip to Africa. Students then paired up and shared their published "All About Sharks" books while different adults floated around the room to listen to them read. Students switched buddies three times so they had the opportunity to hear several other shark books and read theirs to a few friends. The shark books are really impressive and will be coming home today! Be on the lookout and be sure to have your child read their shark book to you!
