Field Day

It's amazing to believe but our first grade year has come to an end! It really was a wonderful year and I will miss this group of students a lot! Have a safe, fun, rejuvenating summer everyone! Here are photos of field day as my last post of the year.

Some Year End Activities

During our last week and a half of school we did a bunch of special activities. We had our trip to the Village Scoop (photos in the previous post) and we made a book called The Scoop About First Grade for me to read to the incoming first graders on Step Up Day. Each year my class makes this book for the incoming class to teach them a bit about what to expect in first grade!

I am also posting photos of a special activity we did with the food shelf. The Colchester Food Shelf is right next door to our school and every June the first graders plant potatoes in a garden patch behind the food shelf. Then in the fall of second grade the same students go back to dig up the potatoes and they donate them to the food shelf! This is a wonderful way for the kids to learn about the food shelf and to be community helpers!

Village Scoop

On Friday afternoon our class walked down the street to the Village Scoop for ice cream as a celebration of the end of the year and classmates with summer birthdays!

All About Chicks Digital Book

This project took us a couple of weeks to complete but here is the link to a class book we made about chicks using Google Slides! In the Colchester School District all students have their own Google account with an email address and Google Drive that they will use for assignments throughout their time here. Students generally start using these some in second grade so I like to introduce my class to Google Drive at the end of first grade so they have an idea of what it is.

I created a shared document on Google Slides and students worked in small groups to create pages for an All About Chicks book. The kids were very excited about getting to work together typing in a shared document from different devices and they did a great job on their first time creating something this way! Check out the book they created by using the link below!
