Grinch Day

Every year just before our December break first grade has a Grinch Day! Today we did Grinch math (problem solving and the 100 grid you see here), Grinch writing (how to make the Grinch smile), we read the book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and wrote a response about the message from the story, we made Grinches, and we watched the old cartoon version of the Grinch movie! Many of us also wore green today and we had some holiday fun before our break. As a special treat Mr. Kellogg also brought in his cello and played Christmas music for us.

Measurement Trees

We have been learning about measurement during math time so in order to celebrate the season while we practice measuring we made these trees made from strips of paper that we measured and cut!

Thanksgiving

Today we had a little Thanksgiving fun! We painted adorable turkeys that are coming home today and we also read and compared two similar stories about turkeys trying to escape Thanksgiving!

Halloween

Yesterday and today we have been having lots of festive fun! We have learned about the Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead, which is the day after Halloween and we have learned about Halloween. We watched a science video about vampire bats and did a written response, we read lots of books, and made a few art projects. We also did some fun Halloween math review and a compare/contrast venn diagram about the book and video, Spookley the square pumpkin!
