Field Day

During our last week of school we had Field Day at Airport Park. It was a hot, sunny day and we played lots of fun games, many including water! We also had a visit from Champ and from the ice cream truck which gave everyone a popsicle! Here are some photos from the day.

Have a wonderful, relaxing, fun, and safe summer everyone!

Author Visit

Another special event we had in June was a visit from local author, Abbie Bowker. She wrote the book Wooly Bear Winter which includes both her sister's poem about Wooly Bear caterpillars/animals preparing for winter and non-fiction information about Vermont animals in winter. Abbie spent two days with us. The first focused on teaching kids about being an author and the second focused on teaching kids how to write and illustrate a Haiku poem! Here are some photos from her visit.

Potatoes

The Colchester Food Shelf is our school's neighbor. Right behind the food shelf and next to our school is a small plot where students help grow vegetables for the food shelf. This June first graders helped plant potatoes there and in the fall when they are second graders they will go back to dig up the potatoes and donate them to the food shelf! Here are a few photos from our planting process.

More Chicks

Here are photos of all the kids holding chicks in case you, parents, would like to save them! Kids all took a copy home at the end of the unit.

Chicks!

The end of our year was a whirlwind and I have lots of photos that I never got around to posting during the last month. These photos are from the end of our unit studying the life cycle of a chick. Kids all created "All About Chicks" books and we shared them with the class next door who did the same project. On the last day our chicks were here (before moving back to farms) we had a big chick celebration where families came in to meet the chicks and to see all of the work students had done throughout the unit!
