Fire Station Visit

Continuing our unit on Community Helpers the first grade classes took a walking field trip to visit the Colchester Volunteer Fire Department just down the street from school today!

We got to learn about the different trucks, learn about what fire fighters do in our community, and learn about fire safety. Students learned about staying low to the ground and crawling to safety if there is smoke in the air, choosing a designated meeting spot outside to meet with family after leaving the house in case of fire, calling 911 from a safe location away from the house/knowing their address to tell the dispatcher, and using the pattern "stop, drop, cover your face, and roll" if there is fire on your clothes. The fire fighters also dressed me up in their gear to explain the different parts to the class and to show the kids that even though the gear might look and sound scary the person inside is friendly and is there to help you.

Thank you to all of the family members who joined us today!
