Measurement Trees

During our current math unit first graders are learning about measurement. As you have seen in your child's homework we have been using some non-standard units of measure such as paper clips, cubes, pencils, etc to find length. To introduce measuring with rulers/inches we did a project where students measured and cut strips of paper to create evergreen trees for a December bulletin board! We added a little bit of art to our math by using crayon/watercolor resist (drawing white snowflakes on white paper with crayon then watching the snow appear by painting over it with blue water color paint) to make snowy forest backgrounds. Students decorated the trees in their own style afterward and we hung them on our hallway bulletin board.
