Letter Writing

Our class has finished up our work on opinion writing and is now doing a mini-unit on letter writing for the month of February. We are starting by learning about the parts of a letter and discussing the reasons for writing letters/the people we might write to.

Our first letter tied what we learned about opinion writing to what we are starting to learn about authentic reasons to write letters. The class decided that they would really like to have a pajama and stuffed animal day at school this month and each student wrote a letter to Mr. Antonicci trying to convince him. Students wrote their opinions and supported them with very persuasive reasons! Mr. Antonicci wrote a letter back to us the next day saying that we (among other classes) had convinced him and that we can have a pj/stuffed animal day the day before February break. Mark your calendars! Friday, February 24 we will have a pajama/stuffed animal day at UMS!

We will continue writing different letters for different purposes throughout the month of February. If you want to connect at home you could have your child think of someone they might like writing a letter to and practice writing/sending one from home!
