During the month of October first graders are learning about community helpers. Students are meeting some of the community helpers located near our school to learn about their jobs. Two members of the Colchester Rescue department came to school to teach us about their job last week! Students got to see some of the equipment they use and ask them questions about their job and how they help our community (they had hoped to show us the ambulance but it was a rainy day so they brought some things into class instead).
Next Monday 10/15 we will be walking to the fire station down the street to learn about the Colchester Fire Department and fire fighters. The following Monday 10/22 we will be walking to the library to learn about how the library and librarians are important to our community. If you (family members) would like to join us for either of those trips we would LOVE to have volunteers come along!
As we learn about different jobs in our community we would love to hear about some different family members' jobs too! Tomorrow students will bring home a community helper interview worksheet so that they can interview a family member about their job. Please help your child interview someone (it could be you!) then send these back to school at some point next week. As the interviews are returned to school students will share what they learned about different jobs in their family/our community!
