As part of learning to read, there are certain sight words that students must learn to memorize. Teachers at UMS use the Fry list of most commonly read words in the English language with our students. Students must be able to read these words quickly, within seconds, in order to have mastered them. Below are links to both a list of the words students must learn in first grade and a Power Point that, when played as a slideshow, will allow students to practice reading the words quickly before the next word appears on the screen. Sight words are a great thing to practice at home to help boost your child's reading skills!
