DARE

This month our class is having weekly DARE lessons with Officer Mellen from the Colchester Police Department. Students learn different things in DARE during different years in their school career and you may remember DARE from your school days as lessons about drug and alcohol prevention. In first grade DARE lessons focus on personal safety. Our first lesson, last week, taught students about what to do in an emergency. Students learned about calling 911, having a plan with their family in case of emergencies, knowing their address and phone number in case they need to call for help, and knowing who trusted adults are in case they need help when they are not with a parent. Our lesson yesterday focused on understanding safety signs out in the community and following those directions and other posted rules in order to help stay safe. We have two more DARE lessons before December break!
