Each fall as we build our classroom community and make the room our own our class creates self portraits to hang on the wall. Students have been making life-like self portraits in art class so we decided to go a little more abstract for the portraits in our classroom this year!
Todd Parr is an author/illustrator whose books feature people drawn with just a few, bright, basic colors. We read a few of his books and students created Todd Parr style portraits of themselves to hang on our wall! They chose a color for the background, one for the face, one for the hair, and another for the shirt. Todd Parr's people all have very simple faces so we made our portraits in keeping with his drawings, making simple features with just a few embellishments. Here are photos of our portraits as well as some of Todd Parr's books/people. You will get to see these at open house Thursday evening!
