Election Day Part 1!

Today we learned lots more about what a president is and the voting process in class! We read more about presidents and the students wrote what they would do if they were the president. We also read more about voting and students created their own voter registration cards. We then used our classroom voting booth to cast ballots for our favorite cookie (Oreo or chocolate chip -- I mean, really you can't go wrong).

Mrs. Levi and I brought chocolate chip and Oreo cookies in to class but we made it clear that we were going to have a fair election and only the winning cookie would be eaten. This helped students with the understanding that, in an election, even if their chosen "candidate" isn't the winner we all go with the choice made by the majority.

We had a tight race, as you can see from the ballot data we charted, but Oreo came out the winner. We charted and discussed our election results then ended our lesson with a cookie!

Tomorrow we will read the books Duck for President and Grace for President then use our voting booth one more time to vote between the two storybook candidates for president.
