I am also posting photos of a special activity we did with the food shelf. The Colchester Food Shelf is right next door to our school and every June the first graders plant potatoes in a garden patch behind the food shelf. Then in the fall of second grade the same students go back to dig up the potatoes and they donate them to the food shelf! This is a wonderful way for the kids to learn about the food shelf and to be community helpers!

Some Year End Activities
During our last week and a half of school we did a bunch of special activities. We had our trip to the Village Scoop (photos in the previous post) and we made a book called The Scoop About First Grade for me to read to the incoming first graders on Step Up Day. Each year my class makes this book for the incoming class to teach them a bit about what to expect in first grade!
