Party Reminder
Tomorrow afternoon from 2-2:50pm our class is having a party before vacation. Families are welcome and we hope to see you there!
Christmas
Continuing with our theme of learning about different major winter holidays we read about and did a Christmas art project yesterday. This crayon resist and measurement project is one of my favorites!
Students first did a crayon resist background where they drew snowflakes with white crayon on white paper then watched the snow appear as they painted over the paper with blue water color paint! The crayon resists the watercolor so the backgrounds look like a blue sky with falling snow!
Our most recent math unit focused on measurement so this next step was perfect! Students used rulers to measure and cut green strips of paper to create their trees. They glued the trees onto their background then decorated them in whatever way they wanted. We had some very creative and festive final products!

Hanukkah
We are continuing to learn about some of the major winter holidays and today we wrapped up our learning about Hanukkah, which begins this coming Saturday. We read a couple different non-fiction texts teaching us about what Hanukkah celebrates and also read the fictional stories, Moishes Miracle, Latkes and Applesauce, and one of my all time favorite stories, Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins. Students made paper hand-print menorahs, we played the dreidel game, and we cooked potato latkes in class for everyone to try!
I sent home the directions for the dreidel game today and, if you are interested, dreidels can be found at the dollar store or craft store (or on Amazon where I got mine). Our latkes came from Trader Joe's and a lot of the kids loved them so you may get requests for those as well!
